Overview

Sovereign Research Engine is a privacy-first document intelligence system designed for serious research workflows. It combines retrieval-augmented generation, hybrid search, citation-backed answers, and persistent research memory to help users work with complex documents more reliably.

System Design

The system is built around a problem-first architecture: ingestion, retrieval, reasoning, auditability, and reusable knowledge are separated so the system can remain modular, explainable, and easier to improve over time.

Key Highlights

  • Local-first RAG architecture
  • Hybrid retrieval with dense search and keyword search
  • Citation-backed responses
  • Evidence-quality and hallucination-risk awareness
  • Persistent research memory with PostgreSQL and pgvector
  • FastAPI and Streamlit workbench for orchestration and interaction

Why It Matters

The project demonstrates how AI systems can be designed for reliability rather than novelty alone. It focuses on trustworthy retrieval, inspectable reasoning, and reusable research state so users can move from ad hoc question-answering to repeatable knowledge work.
